War breaks out on Tolgol as Orcus forces the minions of the Abyss to unite against the "First World." The Demon Prince of the Undead bribes Tiamat with the spoils of conquest and lands to govern once they are conquered.
It should be noted that by this time in Tolgol's history, most regions of the world had consolidated their local heroes into Guilds. Guilds were meant to be a place for the heroes to work together; consolidate their powers, aid in research, train, and organize/distribute their region's resources.
Most of these Guilds were good, however one Guild in particular was not. This Guild, based out of the Duergar Kingdoms in the underdark, was called, "The Silent Eyes." Founded and led by a beholder named Jethero, the villainous Guild answered the call of Orcus to help spread chaos and confusion amongst the surface dwelling inhabitants of Tolgol.
The races of giant-kind, the first rulers of Tolgol, whom had lost their ancient and mighty civilization due to infighting and war with dragons, were lured into joining the war with promises of their kingdom's restoration.
The good Guilds united against this combined threat almost immediately. They were led by a Guild based out of the sparsely populated Vale region, and they were known for their unconventional methods and members.
This Guild was effective with its unique abilities, often carrying out specialized missions (specifically, dragon-extermination). Before the war the Guild had simply called themselves "The Vale." But before the last fight had been fought and the war was over, the people only referred to them as, "The Dragonslayers."
